Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) is a voluntary government-business initiative to build cooperative relationships that strengthen and improve overall international supply chain and U.S. border security.
C-TPAT recognizes that U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) can provide the highest level of cargo security only through close cooperation with the ultimate owners of the international supply chain such as importers, carriers, consolidators, licensed customs brokers, and manufacturers.

How does a factory audit protect my investment?
A factory audit ensures your supplier is capable of completing your product order, to your quality specifications. Before you begin production, know that you have chosen the right supplier. The quality of Asian-made products is a major concern for consumers worldwide. Doing your part saves you time and money and ensures confidence in your brand.
Should I notify my supplier in advance of a pending factory audit?
If you have never worked with the supplier before, or they have a good record, prior notification is always recommended. Including a new supplier in this process will help to build trust at the onset of your relationship. However, auditing a supplier without prior notification may be beneficial when auditing or re-auditing a problematic supplier. Once a supplier has given you cause for concern, a surprise audit may catch problems they have covered up in the past and help correct their behavior; reducing the need for additional audits.
How often should I re-audit my suppliers?
We recommend auditing a supplier minimum once per year. A lot can change in a year; ensure your suppliers continue to operate at international standards.
Can still I audit my supplier after production begins?
Yes, but it is not recommended. With the many equipment checks, interviews, etc. involved in an audit, it's best to have the information up front before your product begins. You also do not want to interfere with your our own production schedule.
If my supplier fails the audit, do I have any legal obligations?
No. Audit criteria are international standards, not government law.

AsiaInspection clients pay no monthly or annual fee, and pay only for any inspections, audits, or lab testing booked from their free account.
